The Kinburn Spit

The Kinburn Spit is a great place to relax, which will appeal most to those who adore sandy, clean beaches and sunny resorts. The spit has an area of more than 200 hectares, and is an integral part of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve.

Location

The unique peninsula is located in the Ochakovsky district of the Nikolaev region. The distance between Ochakovo and the spit is 5-7 km along the bay, in other words there is no direct road and one can reach to the point by boat from Ochakov or by car through the village of Geroiskoe. It is worth noting that the road by car is not easy, and at times extremely dangerous, includes swamps and quicksand. A car must have good ground clearance (at least 20 cm), be technically sound and have additional equipment, and the driver must be experienced in off-road driving.

To tell truth, only the most courageous will go on the journey by car.

Volyzhin forest is a rare remnant of the forests of the ancient country of Gilea.

The forest is home to many different species of birds - more than 250 species, 60 species of which are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.

Pink pelicans also nest on the Kinburg.

Salt lakes with healing mud attract many people who prefer eco-tourism.

On the peninsula you can visit the remains of the Turkish fortress Kinburn and the monument to Count Alexander Suvorov.
